Have you been avoiding God? Are you under the impression that you need to “clean yourself up” in order to come to God? Does shame and regret keep you prisoner to the life you’re in? The devil whispers lies into your ears and tells you that God couldn’t save someone who’s done the things you’ve done. He couldn’t love you. Satan is the father of lies and he will tell you every bad thing about yourself to keep you from the love that God so badly wants to give you. In Roman’s 5:8, we are told that God demonstrated His love for us in this way, that Christ died for us even though we were sinners. EVEN THOUGH…. He knew our sin, our failures, our horrible choices, everything about us and He still loved us enough to die for us. That is the truth.

Matthew 9:10-12 says, “While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ On hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” You don’t have the clean yourself up. You couldn’t anyway. And you know what else, God’s only dress code is modesty. He doesn’t require fine clothing. He looks to the heart of a person. You can go to Jesus just as you are. He wants to save you. He wants to clean you up, rebuild your life and restore you. He wants to bring light into your darkness. Stop listening to the lies and start believing the truth. You are loved.
