Rest is an important theme throughout scripture. It starts all the way at the beginning when God himself rested after creating everything. Genesis 2:2 says, “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.” One thing that I have noticed about a lot of us humans is that we think we’re too busy to rest. We think that if we take one day off or even a couple of hours to ourselves that the world will stop turning and everything will fall apart. No wonder so many people find themselves burnt out and exhausted! We make ourselves too important. That is called pride. We have to trust that God is in control and that he will take care of things for us. Rest is important. It allows renewal and refreshing of our bodies, minds and souls. In Matthew 11:28 we are told, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” True rest can only be found in Christ. Take time to rest in Him.
