Forgiveness is a hard thing. When someone hurts us or someone that we love, forgiveness can seem impossible. Our nature is to hold grudges or to retaliate. In our own strength, forgiveness is not something we would even consider.

Ephesians 4:32 tells us to “be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another just as God forgave you in Christ.” If we step back and remember all that God has forgiven of us, how can we not forgive others. We daily sin against God and are need of forgiveness, yet He said that if we confess our sins they will be removed as far as the east is from the west.

We all stand broken and in need of forgiveness, but “the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against Him”, Daniel 9:9. How then can we not show mercy to those who sin against us? It’s not easy but with God’s help we can let go of the bitterness that comes from an unforgiving heart.
