1 Corinthians 13:4-7 is a very familiar passage. It reads, “Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love never fails.” Whew! Love is far more than an emotion. Love is an action. It is all of the actions mentioned above. It is also a choice that we have to make daily.
We have the perfect example of love in the Bible. God loves us so much that He made a choice to send Jesus to Earth to die for us and Jesus loves us so much that He willingly did just that. It was a choice followed by an action. It wasn’t easy. It was hard and it hurt, but to love is to put others before yourself. It is to care more for them that for yourself, even if it means you will be hurt. Without the love that was poured out for us through Jesus’ blood on the cross, we would have no hope for salvation. Love is the most precious of gifts that you can offer to someone. It’s not without cost, but it is entirely worth the reward.
