After Jesus’s resurrection, He met with the eleven disciples. Matthew 28: 18-20 says, “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In what is known to Christians as “the great commission”, Jesus gives His followers instructions to go to action. He tells them to share the good news of salvation and to teach others about Him and all that He had commanded them. Once someone receives salvation through Christ Jesus, their work for His kingdom begins. We’re not to keep this great news to ourselves but to share it with others throughout the world.
After giving the disciples these instructions, Jesus left them with a promise. This is a promise for all believers and followers of Christ. He promised that He would be with us to the very end. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to be with his followers. Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as a Counselor and the Spirit of truth. What a special, vital gift in our relationship with God. He is here with us, counseling us in truth.
