Recently, a robin decided to make our windowsill her new home for her nest, and it has been exciting to watch them all grow. There is something truly special about watching a mama bird and her babies. They start off so helpless, and then in the blink of an eye learn to fly. They grow their feathers and become fluffy. One minute they are in their eggs hidden away to develop, and the next they have left the nest to repeat the cycle. The initial jump is scary, but the birds must leave the nest.
Life is such a precious thing that we so often take for granted “so teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12). If you have children, you know this to be true. They grow up so fast; it feels like you never have enough time to do what you want with them.
Because we are limited in our time here on earth, we need to step out of our comfort zone sometimes. Just like those baby birds leaving the nest, as Christians we may be called to do something that is not always “comfortable” in order to lead others to Christ. Each person is called to share the Gospel, but there are many ways to do this.
We may feel led to go to another country to spread the Gospel, volunteer our time to show God’s love at a homeless shelter or other organization, or perhaps lead a Sunday school class. “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage: be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord they God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” (Joshua 1:9). Do not be afraid to do what is right. If someone is talking against God, stand up for your beliefs. Our time is short. Make the most out of your life here.
