Many in the world think of the church as a building, but the church is the people that gather inside the
building. The church is a group of believers who don’t even need a building but are sometimes blessed
to have nice facilities to meet in. Often, that group of people think that just by showing up at “the
building” they have done their duty for God. They don’t jump in and take a roll or any responsibility.
There are so many areas of service in the church. If we truly want to serve God, we should seek to serve
His church. Romans 12:4-5 says, “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not
all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one
of another.” We can’t count on others to perform every function of the church because we all have
different functions. We each have to find our own place of service. The body is most productive when all
of its members are working together towards a common goal. In 1 Peter 4:10, we are told that each of
us has received a gift and that we should use it to serve one another. In order to be an effective church
that honors God, ministers to each other and reaches out to the lost, all members need to get involved.
